Hyundai EON bookings starts today


The country’s second-largest automobile manufacturer, Hyundai Motor India Ltd (HMIL), will start taking orders for its small car, Eon, from tomorrow, posing a challenge to Maruti Suzuki’s best-selling model, the Alto.
According to industry sources, the car sports an 814-cc engine and is expected to be priced around Rs 2.5 lakh. HMIL did not share technical specifications or pricing points of the car. The Alto is tagged between Rs 2.32 lakh and Rs 3.31 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi).


It was the largest selling small car globally last year, recording a sales volume of over 300,000 units.
H W Park, managing director and chief executive officer of HMIL, said, “We are confident the Eon will set a new benchmark in the Indian market with regard to styling, performance, safety and convenience. The car will provide the best-in-class design, quality and technology to our customers.”
“The car is targeted at first-time buyers who want to buy a spacious and stylish car that is high on fuel economy,” the company said in a statement.
The Eon will be manufactured at HMIL’s facility near Chennai.
The car has been developed through concerted efforts of Hyundai’s research and development teams in South Korea and India.


Hyundai EON a globally recognized car, is targeted at the first time buyers in India. Hyundai EON was the largest selling small car globally last year, recording a sales volume of over 3,00,000 units. The entry level car will eye Maruti Alto’s market which is Maruti Suzuki’s best-selling model in India. Hyundai EON will house a 800 cc petrol engine expected to churn out a peak power of 50 Bhp. The car will also give a tough tine to Tata Nano, which is so far the cheapest car in India. Hyundai India has announced that the company is committed to offer products with advanced technology to the Indian market and is confident that the Eon will set a new benchmark in the Indian market with regard to styling, performance, safety and convenience.

H. W. Park, Managing Director and CEO at Hyundai India is extremely confident about EON’s future in India. He said that Eon, which will bear Hyundai's latest design philosophy of ‘fluidic sculpture', has design elements and features that have been specifically developed for Indian conditions. Korean carmaker said that the entry level car, Hyundai EON, will provide the best-in-class design, quality and technology to its customers. The Hyundai EON will be manufactured at Hyundai Motor’s plant near Chennai.
