 Following the ‘diesel cars in demand’ strategy, Japanese carmaker Nissan has decided to launch a diesel incarnation of its just launched sedan - Nissan Sunny, at the next Indian Auto Expo to be held in January 2012. The Nissan Sunny Diesel price in India will in all probability be around Rs 9-9.5 lakh. Nissan Sunny Diesel akin to its junior, the diesel avatar of Nissan Micra is expected to do good to Nissan and has every reason to be a contender of recently launched Toyota Etios Diesel and Maruti’s best selling sedan Maruti Swift Dzire.

This Nissan sedan was codenamed L02B and it is based on the same ‘V’ platform as that of its hatch car Nissan Micra. Nissan Sunny was launched on September 20, 2011 in petrol engine option only and the company is hoped to introduce the diesel variant soon. There are three variants of Nissan Sunny petrol. Nissan Sunny is produced at the manufacturing plant in Chennai where Nissan Micra is produced for India and exported to other countries. Nissan Sunny is powered by 1.5 litre 4 cylinders and 16 valves petrol engine that produces 100 PS of maximum power. The engine produces around 134 Nm of torque like other 1.5 litre powertrains. The engine is affixed with a 5 speed manual gearbox. With this engine configuration and a decent price tag, Nissan Sunny is in competition with the likes of Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Swift Dzire, Tata Indigo Manza, Ford Fiesta.

Nissan Sunny XE is the basic model of Nissan Sunny. It has 1.5L 4 cylinder 16 valve DOHC petrol engine under the hood. It has the same mileage of 15 kmpl in the city and 17 kmpl on the highways.
